Rebecca Hart is a UK / NZ artist and illustrator.

early influences began in a Shropshire, England idyll, a childhood spent reading girls comics and Ladybird books, By day watching British children’s television shows with their puppetry and animation, and at night watching Hammer horror films with their Gothic, campy vibe.

Regular visits to the city of Birmingham, England, exposed Rebecca to not only her Brummie relatives with their unique sense of humour (think Ozzy Osbourne!) but also to the arts and craft movement and museums filled with Pre-Raphaelite paintings.

emigration to NZ with her family at the age of 11 brought with it a greater interest in music, which Rebecca studied for a number of years, music was and continues to be a huge source of inspiration and, after finishing studying painting and printmaking at Ilam School of FIne Arts in Canterbury, this love of music would serve her well in the next chapter.

Rebecca and her brother, television director Ian Hart, decided to combine their creative minds and started ‘Trophywife productions ( we make you look good )’ Collaborating with various industry talents, they made a number of music videos for NZ bands, winning best n.z music video at the aotearoa music awards for ‘Her Hairagami Set’ and being selected for show twice at the Melbourne film festival with two animated videos.

Ian went on to travel the world making documentaries and Rebecca proceeded to concentrate on her portrait paintings and commissions, Twice becoming a finalist in the Adam Portrait awards at the New Zealand portrait gallery.

Rebecca continues to, occasionally, collaborate and conspire with her sibling on projects and to portray faces and personalities that she finds interesting.
